One envelope at a time.

Primary election results are coming in today in King County. I dropped my ballot off this morning downtown at the King County Admin Building. People often talk about the loss of that feeling of coming together for a civic purpose now that we no longer trundle down to a polling place to cast our vote with other people, but there’s a little piece of that in dropping off your ballot instead of mailing it in.

As I approached the drop box this morning there was a gentleman there, likely a county employee, also dropping off his ballot. And three others. I teased him that he was only allowed to vote once, he replied with, “It depends on which country you live in.”

It’s interesting to see that in the early results for mayor, the current incumbent might not even make it to the general election. Though with less than 20% of the vote counted, it’s a bit premature to speculate.
